From dollar tree to farmhouse

I am obsessed with the whole farm life! Everything from the animal to the homegrown food. I’m even more in love with the whole farm house style! It’s a beautiful mix of rustic and elegant. You get the bright whites mixed with the warm country glow! I really just love it all! With that love comes a hefty price tag. Since “farmhouse” style is so in, it tends to be a bit pricey. As we all know I work part time, have a toddler, and am pregnant with baby#2. I definitely don’t have the funds to supply my house with all the amazing items that I want! I definitely won’t let this stop me, I’m thrifty and crafty, I plan to use both of these skills to my advantage! Why not use it to you advantage as well!

I have a new love for the dollar tree, some things are a bit “cheap” and not worth the dollar, other things are perfect. You just have to know what to look for!

Here are a few things I have done around the house so far with the help of our local dollar tree!

When you look for farmhouse you really have to try and channel your inner country, and then think how can I make this more “elegant”.

I found these metal pots there a few months ago, I have been hiding them knowing they would be useful eventually.

I made my monthly trip to dollar tree and found that they have fake succulents, the cheapest ones I could find have been at Walmart, and those are $3-5. So I snatched up my fake plants and ran out! It was time to dig up the metal planters and go to work.

The end result is perfect! The green contrast with the metal pot is spot on, and the fact that this cost me $4 is the cherry on top.

Another trip I bought a cake pan, pie pan and a glass candle holder!

I glued (you need a heavy duty glue, E6000 or gorilla glue) the candle holder to the inside of the cake pan ad then the top to the bottom of the pie pan.

Let it dry fully (2+ hours) and decorate!

Then there is the flowers and flower vases! They have so many options, that can be changed to look “farmhouse-y”

I don’t have a before picture but I bought this clear glass vase about 6 months ago, I bought some off-white acrylic paint and “painted” the inside. By “painted” I mean I squeezed some paint in the vase and moved it around till the paint covered everything. I then tipped it over and drained the excess paint for a few minutes and then put it upright to dry for a day or 2.

Add some pretty dollar tree flowers and your done!

This one is the same type of metal pot as above with just a bunch of greenery that I have bought along the way! (Clearance time at Christmas is the best time to buy green stuff!)

I plan to do a lot more around the house, so be on the look out for more dollar tree hacks!!

Chickens on the farm

I can’t believe I have lived on this “farm” for 3 months already!

We moved in December to our new house, which we have been working on since May, and still going!

I knew moving out in the country that I wanted to take full advantage of having land and wanted to help supplement some of our grocery bill by growing and raising food.

I was able to take some of my first “homesteading” steps and I’m extremely happy!!

So when we moved out here I was given 4 chickens…

1 Rhode Island Red Rooster and 1 hen (Fred and Daphne)

1 frizzled Cochin rooster (Scooby)

1 silkie roosters (shaggy)

I just let them range and roam the land eating bugs. These have become our “pets”. We have since lost a couple roosters, but the rest of the flock is doing great! They sleep right next to our window and stare at us while we eat dinner.

I really love chickens and these are amazing but I didn’t get the satisfaction of getting anything but companionship from them, I wanted some delicious eggs as well! Well one day this past week we went to the feed store to grab some horse feed and I heard that sweet little chirp! It’s safe to say I left with more than just horse feed!

We now had…

2 barred rock pullets

2 Americauna pullets

And 1 New Hampshire red named “Bok Bok”

I wanted Bear to be as involved in this adventure as much as I am so she got to pick out 1 chick, the beloved Bok Bok!

The jump from 3 to 8 chickens was not to bad, but then again they are babies and hang out inside, and my other 3 just roam so I don’t even have to feed them!

Then the lady that gave me the others, gave me 9 more! I was in Chicken Heaven!! These included…

1 Ayam Cemani Rooster and 3 hens

2 Easter Eggers

2 production red hens

1 Americauna Hen

That’s 17 chickens people!

Right now it’s not that big of a deal, we will definitely go through feed more but I also let them free range for the day, and then make sure they are all locked up and safe at night. They tend to produce eggs in the morning time so with them being in the coop they lay eggs in the roosting boxes. We are in the process of building a new coop since the one we are using was here when we got here. That new coop will decide how many we can keep and love, until then I’m just loving on all these amazing little critters!

I am excited to share with y’all how this all plays out!

Who is Santa to the Baird’s?

I posted the most amazing picture of my child in Santa’s lap this past week. Imagine sitting a sweet 19 month old on some strange mans lap. Yeah that tromarizing yell your imagining, that’s what happened! It was pure gold! No, I’m not all about sacrificing my child for a good picture but come on, this is pretty darn cute.

But have no fear just 2 minutes later she was laughing with her friends and playing with acorns, all while saying “cheese” for every picture!

So we took a picture with the beloved Santa! Must mean that we “believe” in Santa. Wrong! Let’s take a moment here and wait for everyone to pick their jaws up off the floor and catch their breath.

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

I absolutely just went against the “social norm”. If you have read anything else by me, you know that I am not afraid to rock the boat. I speak out about thing most people don’t want to. This is one of these things!

So back to the big guy, Santa. I will answer some questions that some of you may be asking yourself. No Santa does not visit our house. Yes “Santa” used to visit my house as a kid. Yes, my child takes pictures with Santa. Yes, my child is currently sleeping in a Santa footie pajama, and she looks stinking cute in it!

1 Timothy 4: 6-9

(6) If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. (7) Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. (8) For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. (9) This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.

Shall I explain myself, so there were a few determining factors that we took into consideration as Christmas time came around, the first year we had bear.

  1. I’m married to a firefighter. Do you know their schedule? It’s crazy to say the least! He could work a Christmas one year and then maybe Christmas Eve the next, but wait it’s leap year so he may have to work Christmas again!
  2. Before we even had kids we talked about not having “Santa” visit our house.
  3. We don’t want to lie to bear. I get it! I pass absolutely NO Judgment on anyone that “believes” in santa, but to me it felt like lying. You may not see it that way.
  4. It’s not scriptually sound. “

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.” Colossians 2:8

I didn’t feel like involving Santa, involved Christ. I’m sure there is a way that you could but it’s so much easier to exnay the Santa man and focus more on Christ.

So last year, Bear was only 6 (ish) months old so she didn’t know anything was going on! This year, I have all kinds of Christ centered Christmas things planned! I will absolutely share more later!

This was a hards blog to write. I know some people really enjoy the “spirit” of Santa and giving, and they want their kids to be young and have fun with the imagination. Like I said I get it, but if we take a closer look at who’s SPIRIT was more GIVING, you will see that Christ gave us the greatest gift we could ever receive. The gift of eternity life! He also gave his whole life to give us this gift, so I will spent the rest of my life trying to serve him!

Do I think your a bad person or Christian or parent for “believing” in santa? HECK NO!!!

Should you think I’m a bad person or parent for no celebrating Santa? HECK NO!!!

Should we judge one another? HECK NO!!

Can we still be friends?? HECK YES!!!

Do we make the same parenting decision? HECK NO!!!

When a social media hiatus isn’t enough.

social media

I have not nor will I try to hide my beliefs. I’m a Christian, a southern Baptist, with VERY traditional beliefs. Such as the man should be head of the house and the women should tend to the children and house. This is actually not how a lot of women think now-a-days. They feel that they are not being respected or they feel owed the opportunity to do the same thing that a man does. I don’t feel this same calling so I can not say why they feel this way or why they feel that women are less appreciated. God created us just as he did man but with a different purpose in mind, we are no less important, in fact I would love to think that if something was to happen to me then my house would fall apart. Ok that sounds bad, but I hope that I am doing such a fantastic job at making everything run smoothly and I would love to think that no one could run MY house like me.

I’m sure that you are asking yourself what does this have to do with a Social Media Hiatus? Well it by itself doesn’t but if you take in my beliefs and social media they can tend to clash.

I am NOT perfect, I catch myself sitting on the couch during nap time or any “down*” time during the day scrolling on Facebook. Why?? The answer is super simple, Because I can. You can see that I put and emphasis on “down time”. I will be honest this is probably not a down time, there is always something I can do but I choose not to and choose to sit down because I feel “entitled” to some rest time. This here goes against everything I said in that first paragraph. I want to be the only person that can run my house and I also want to take pride in it, if I neglect my responsibilities then I’m not taking very good care of my house.

I am human, a very weak one at that, and my self-control is AWFUL! So I put myself on a social media “time-out”, but as I stated before I have no self-control. Facebook is my social media weakness, so what do I do about this pull that I have? I deleted my Facebook app, that didn’t work because I would just open up the safari app and type it in. I had to put a child lock on my phone so that I am unable to get on Facebook on my phone, GUESS WHAT? It’s working!! If I want to get on Facebook I will have to do so on my computer. This takes convenience out of the equation and once again I am able to care for my household like I should.

*I will not delete my Facebook all together because it’s how I keep up with family far away. I could mail letter and pictures but that actually takes a lot of time and patience, a couple of things that I don’t have. *

There is a problem here, I am still on social media. I have to be careful as to what I choose to look at. I have to guard my heart and my mind. As a wife I have to make sure that I am not comparing my husband to others or even my life to others. Do you know how hard this is? You constantly see other people posting pictures of them going on dates, I then start to think “I need a date, why doesn’t he take me out?”

GUYS, I cannot say this enough my husband is amazing. He works hard, and then when he is not at work he is working even harder on trying to make our dream home a reality. He often jokes that he goes to work for a break. The sad part is he’s probably not kidding.

So how can you can you guard your heart without cutting social media out completely? I’m going to let you down on a little secret, listen, or in our case read carefully. Facebook has created this amazing feature and it really helps us in situations like this, It’s called UNFOLLOW. *gasp* Ok, with all joking aside this is an amazing feature. You are able to be friends with people without seeing all of their posts. So who do you need to unfollow? Anyone that makes you SIN. I’m giving myself away here. I have unfollowed a lot of people. Not because of them but because of me, and if I was causing someone to sin I would expect them to unfollow me. If seeing pictures if my kid, house, family or even my dogs makes you have ill will or bad thoughts, either toward yourself or anyone else, please don’t keep me around for me. I care about your eternal life A LOT, and I hope that others would feel the same about me!

Romans 13:9 For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These–and other such commandments–are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Like I said, I have been unfollowing people and pages when the time arises but recently I went on a big “unfollowing” spree. Would you like to know who my latest victims are? Men. Yep, you read that right.I went through and unfollowed all the Men that I am not related to. (Even my preacher!) There could come a time that I unfollow them too but that situation has not presented itself. So you’re wondering why would I unfollow all the men on my social media, I did so because of SIN, and I felt like I was dishonoring my husband. God did not create me to be in every intimate part of another mans life other than my husband. It was not Gods intention for us to be inside of others lives like we are. I do not need to know what these men are up to all day, everyday.

I am also a big believer in talking wife to wife first or even making them my only contact. Most times there is no reason for me to talk privately to another man, but if the situation is to arise my husband is the first to know and if the man is married his wife is the second. Do not get me wrong if the wife’s post cause me to sin, I will unfollow her too.

Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

*I was not friends with many men before hand, last year I went on a deleting spree and went from 300 people to about 100*

Please do not think of this as a punishment. I am not punishing these people for posting pictures of their life. I love to look at people’s pictures and read about their outings. I honestly have to protect myself and my family against sin. I am just guarding my heart from satin, he is the one that plants the seeds of doubt and comparison in my mind. I have to remove that temptation. If someone wants me to know whats going on in their life, the will come and talk to me.

James 4:2-4 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

I also want you to know that I am going to start practicing this in my own “real” life. If I am apart of something that is making me sin then I will gladly remove myself from it. I have spent the past few months working extremely hard on being content in my life and my husband and child defiantly deserve the best of me, not the me that is wishing for another life. That is not fair to myself nor is it fair to them.

Thank you for reading!

Love Ya,

Our Daily Schedule

Anyone else have a really busy life? Sure we are currently remodeling a house while we both work and raise a tiny human, but we need some kind of structure. I really need to start this off by saying we are a very laid back family. We have never really had a schedule and honestly a very structured schedule would not work right now since we spend half a day at one house and half a day at another. I, no, we needed a schedule that was flexible enough to move with us, yet structured enough so that we aren’t just sitting around wondering what to do next.

I started off thinking “what are the main things I want to accomplish with bear?” I have mentioned that I would love to home-school bear later, but why couldn’t I start with some kind of “school” now? I defiantly wanted a bible study to be part of our school along with the other normal school things. We also have to make time for that beloved nap. Then there is meals and snacks. Don’t forget bath time and bed time. Believe it or not, every family has a natural rhythm. Take a look at your past few days and note when your family eats and where other things fall in. Like we eat later because my husband is working hard on this new house, therefore I want us to eat together I have to plan for a later dinner. So the afternoon snack is a little later than other families.

My baby is only 16 months and while she is brilliant, she is a child so I try to stick an up/down schedule. Meaning if we are sitting down doing a school lesson the next activity should involve getting up and moving.

So like I said above we are splitting our time between houses, also I work 3 days a week. So our days are not too consistent. I would drive myself CRAZY if I set a time limit on things. Sometimes dinner takes 30 minutes to eat other times we sit and eat for an hour. Sometimes bible study last 2 minutes another time it may last .005 seconds. I really try to play school stuff by eat. She is only 1 so if she can not concentrate for more than a minute, there is no reason for me to fight her. If you have a one year old you know what I mean. She can learn so much just by hanging out with me though out the day, so no reason for me to force her to sit there and listen to me talk because she will not catch on to a SINGLE thing. At that point I will probably have a child that is in her emotional state of mind and we both will get no where unless she is in her executive state.

(Don’t know what I was talking about I will talk more about this later, but look up conscious disciple)

So you will notice that my schedule does not have time, this is my personal preference.

So I had Bear’s schedule pretty much down, I really needed to work on mine. I have lived this whole time without a schedule and really it was OK, but I have a child, job, husband and 2 houses to care for. I need to know what I’m doing because if not, I will find myself sitting down during nap watching TV and wondering where that 2 hours went and when am I going to fold the clothes now. I’ve tried to fold my clothes with her awake and lets just say she loves to “help” but that is not at all what she is dong. Haha.

My major objects for the day are teach bear, fold laundry, wash dishes, make meals, keep the house tidy, and enjoy the day!

Yes, I fold laundry daily. It’s what works for me. I can not spend all day doing laundry. So I take the clothes out of the dryer, throw the clothes from washer to dryer, throw another load in the washer, and then fold and hang the clothes that I took out. It’s a constant cycle but it literally takes me 15 minutes to do.

You will also notice something on my side of the schedule called “extras”. This is because I still have hobbies, I still like to watch TV, I still like to blog. What I did was write down all of the things that I love to do, if there is time. My list includes sewing, blogging, watching a new TV episode, crafting and more. I listed them  in order of importance. This will probably change daily. One day I may have a sewing project while the next I’m typing up a new blog. I love to do these things and they need to be done, that’s why they are on the schedule.

The next thing I knew I wanted to be added to our schedule was pictures. I want to keep this out in the open and maybe even laminate it so that bear can see it too. I would love for her to see what’s happening next. In the future I plan to make a picture schedule of  our morning routine for her to see and follow along.

Now that my whole explanation of our daily schedule is done you finally get to see the result! It’s not fancy, it doesn’t contain EVERYTHING we do, I left out my morning routine before bear wakes up, I have this pretty much down and just like the rest of my life, it’s not super consistent. I do my own bible study at this time and I make my coffee at this time. Bear does not usually sleep long without me in bed so I don’t have too long.

daily schedule

Hope you are able to understand all of my rambling.

Love you,

30 days of dating your husband

Dating your husbandAugust has come to an end quickly. On to pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING, layer clothes, colorful leaves, opened windows, nice breeze and beautiful colors. Can you tell that I LOVE FALL! I really love everything about it. Sadly we are not quite there, come on September 22nd! Until then I have a fantastic way to pass the time, Join me in spending all of September honoring our husbands.

As a mom to a young child I often find myself catering to her all the time. This often means that my husband gets the back burner. I love him dearly and appreciate him so much, I know he knows all of this, but it’s just nice to show it. In fact it’s not just nice it’s scriptural.

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Ephesians 5:22-24 (NIV)

So I want to make it a priority to serve him and honor him.

I have made a list of 30 things to do to “date” your husband, for the 30 days of September. Most of these are free or cheap and at home. Lets be honest, I have a small child, and while I would love to have a designated date night ever month, that’s not going to happen. So I need something to do after she goes to bed or even do as a family while still honoring him. You can download your own copy of this list. Below!

Dating your husband

Do it in what ever order you want, change some or make up your own. All I want is you to make your own memories and have fun while serving your husband, you BOTH deserve it!

I will try to remember to come back here often and update y’all on what is going on, but if not check out #30daysofdatingyourhusband on Instagram or Facebook 🙂

Thank you for stopping by, I would love to hear from you!

Love ya,

Decoding your man: God’s way.

Over a year ago a few ladies at my church started a bible study. This is nothing new, right, I mean I have been going to this church for over 25 years. I often joke that I was born in the pew I sit in. So when I was approached about going to this “wife” bible study, I agreed but to be honest I didn’t think I would gain much from this. At this point I had been married for a bout 5 1/2 years so I thought I had this whole “wife” thing down, and I raised in church so I knew how a wife was supposed to act.

We began this study called “Created to be his Help Meet”. With in the first chapter my toes had been crushed by how hard Debi Pearl had stepped on them. I have attended a few bible studies but I have never finished one. How awful is that? I know! There is absolutely no excuse for this other than I was failing as a christian. I was spiritually immature and I only wanted to hear the good things God could offer me. So when I “thought” I was rocking this whole marriage thing and then found out I was kind of sucking at it, I had to find out more. I knew going into this that I was only going to be married once and I could not mess it up. This study really showed me step by step how to change what I was messing up. I really recommend you looking into this book, either by yourself or even with a group of ladies! The also have a Husband’s study and a pre-marriage study.  I have not read either of these but I do love the wife study.

I do not get any kids of benefits from the link above nor do I have any association to the Pearls, I’m just sharing the love. Also I prefer the older copy to the new and revised 10 year addition. I just don’t agree with the 2 chapters that she added in.

Anyways back to decoding your man. In this book there is a very in-depth chapter on what your husbands need might be, and how you can help him as a Godly wife. I’m going to quickly talk about the 3 types of men and ways to serve them, that Debi goes over in her book! I would love for this to be a multiple part post, so I may look into more “serving your husband” posts. So y’all be on the look out.

Decoding your man what does this mean? To me this is just realizing that not all men are created equal. Every man has different needs and as their wives we are supposed to fulfill a lot of these needs. The problem with this, is men are notorious for not asking for help, so we are left trying to figure out what we think they need. This can be a problem because we add our own needs into the equation and then form so kind of false theory as to how we can help. So like I said there are 3 main types of personalities for men. Each man has his own make up of these. So while mine is like 80% one and like 20% of another, yours could be a completely different make up. Please keep this in mind as you read.

The Commander:

This man is dominant, a born leader. He is chosen by other men to be a leader. He will go above and beyond what is called of him. The commander wants his wife to serve him. He has to be leader and he needs his wife to follow. He will probably even correct you without even a second thought. You should count your blessings that you are married to a strong, bossy man. He knows what he wants in life and he does not stray from that. If you are married to the commander you have to earn your place in his hear. This means you will have to stand by him, be faithful, loyal and most of all, obedient. You should never shame him, nor belittle him, or ignore his accomplishments. He will probably not take out the trash or clean up the trash, if he is asked to do so he will command someone else to do it. You can ruin your marriage by failing to honor and obey your husband’s authority. You can heal your marriage by becoming his Queen, by honoring and obeying his every word (reasonable or not).

The Visionary:

This man is a dreamer. He will move and relocate without a second thought. He will often be an inventor. He will love confrontation. He will either be very wealthy or very poor. If he is not wealthy he will surly be rich in experience. The visionary will need a stable, but she should know how to be reckless to enjoy the ride. You will need to be flexible and loyal. Life will be and adventure. He will need your support to be freely given. He needs a wife that will not take offence easy. The Visionary is not made to be a comforter. You can ruin this marriage by failing to follow, believe or participate. You can heal your marriage by laying aside your own dreams and embrace your calling to be a help meet for your man.

The Steady:

This man is a rock. He does not make snap decisions. He will not spend his last dime on a new idea. He won’t tell other people what to do. Does not like controversy. He will be faithful till the end. This man is content with his wife for the rest of his life. He will not put undue pressure on his wife. He doesn’t expect you to he his servant. You rarely feel hurried, pushed, pressured or forced.  If you are married to the steady man and you are a hopeless romantic, you may not see what he is worth and this means that you are not serving him. He is not spontaneous. He will try to please you and he will become confused if you are unhappy and will try to serve you more. Count your blessings if you are married to this wonderful, kind, loving, serving man. Watch your attitude because if you are a tiny bit selfish you will look ungrateful compared to him. He will love you, adore you, protect you and serve you. As the steady man’s wife you should pray for wisdom for him and you should stop expecting him to preform for you. He will probably not pray with the family, or speak out in witnessing, nor will he be bold in church. Unless he is asked of course. As his wife you should learn to seek his advice and then give him time to answer. The steady man likes his wife to walk beside him. He needs a hard-working, resourceful woman with dignity and honor. She needs to be self-sufficient in all tasks of life. He will make wise well thought out decisions. He will be the man to take out trash and even clean up the mess. He is liked by everyone. He is always in demand, to fix a car, build a house, or even heal them of cancer. As his wife you may never have him to yourself. You can ruin this marriage by failing to appreciate, wait on, or be thankful for your husband’s qualities. You can heal your marriage by being joyful and realizing what kind of friend, lover and companion you have been given.

As you can guess I am defiantly married to “The Steady”! He does have qualities of “The Commander”  but he is majority steady. If you are worried about your husband leading you down the wrong path, just look back at some of the other wives in the bible such as Abraham and Sarah.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Ephesians 5:22-23

I hope that I have somehow helped you serve your husband. I would love to hear some of y’alls stories. Have a blessed day!

Love Ya,

Sleep! What’s Sleep?

Sleep after baby. This is a pretty touchy subject. Maybe it’s because we are all sleep deprived and hangry since we have a tiny human attached to us at all times of the day. It’s pretty amazing right? I’m not knocking it at all, I love it and honestly wouldn’t have it any other way! I will be honest though, about 2 months ago I was done with the whole waking every 2 hours to nurse. So I decided to do some sleep training.

Let me give you some back story. My beautiful baby is now almost 16 months, We still currently co-sleep,  and we are still breastfeeding.

After school ended in May I told myself I was going to cut back the nursing at night so my plan was to feed to sleep, feed at midnight and then feed at like 5. There was a problem here, I went from nursing on demand to a timed schedule. I knew what time it was but my precious baby did not. All she knew was I would nurse her one time she woke up but I wouldn’t the next time.

Ok so onto step B) Cut out nursing at night cold turkey. Uhh looking back I want to say “what were you thinking?” Let me put it this way, neither of us slept for days.

(I have never let my baby cry solo. I am always laying with her. If my husband had to work the next day we would simply stay in another room so he could still function the next day)

Ok so that didn’t work. On to plan C) I have to take a step back and think. Why does she need me in the middle of the night? She’s not hungry 2 hours after eating, why can she not settle? I’ll tell you why, because she was used to having something to suck on and I was taking that away. This is what we have to work on! Getting to sleep without nursing! This was harder on me than it was my daughter. I was more attached to nursing her to sleep than I thought. The first night was a little rough but after she fell asleep she stayed asleep for 4 hours! This may not sound like a lot to you but to me it was amazing! Of course when she woke up she wanted to nurse, but I had to stick to my guns so I just patted her back and loved on her and within a few minutes she was back asleep. At 6 in the morning I though to myself that “it’s morning she can nurse, if she wakes up ok if not that’s fine too.” I usually wake up about that time too so I would nurse her and she will normally doze back off and I will get up and start my day. We have also started to do this at nap times and she doesn’t throw any kind of fit (most days lol).

Not only will it help when she goes to school but it helps her sleep at night. She now sleeps from 9pm to 2am without waking up and then when she wakes up at about 2am she can put herself back to sleep without any crying or nursing!

**I am not an expert by any means but I am going to say this would probably work with any kind of sleep crutch. Whether it’s nursing to sleep, sippy cup to sleep, rocking to sleep, with a paci or anything else. They fall asleep with it at first they are going to wake up wondering where it is at 2 am!

Here is a sample of how our night goes.

6:30pm eat dinner

7:15 Take a Bath

7:45 get Pjs on, brush teeth give hugs and kisses

8:00 read book and nighttime nurse.

8:30 lay down in bed together to go to sleep (no lights and sound machine on)

She usually falls asleep within 15-20 minutes. After that mommy is free to watch tv, clean, or do anything she wants!

To me this is a mommy win! Have you tried some kind of sleep training that may have worked or may not have worked that you would like to share?

I would like to add that I would not change how we nursed at night the past year! Bear wouldn’t take milk from a bottle from 6 months on so she would nurse a lot at night time (since I worked during the day). This is when she obtained a lot of the calories and nutrition that she needed and I was completely fine with this!

Hope y’all have a great weekend!

Love ya,

My top 5 ways to save a few $$$

I would love to stay home and maybe even think about homeschooling bear, but that is not an option right now. However I have had the privilege of cutting back my hours and working part-time, this way I am able to spend more time with my family! We have had to cut back on a few things in order to achieve this but it was well worth it!
I really want to share with you ways that we were able to save some money so we could spend more time as a family. I know there is some of y’all struggling with the desire to spend less time away from your family but you don’t think you can do it financially, my hope is to give you hope that maybe you can!

5. This is going to sound like an obvious answer but it really hit home for me. You NEED a budget! This really started when I went through financial peace university taught by Dave Ramsey. He really taught me how to do a budget and why. It’s really telling your money where to go and using it so it doesn’t run your life. I want to stay home but I also want to have fun, with a budget I get to decide where my money goes! When you sit down and do your first budget, you will see how wasteful you have been with your money and it might be pretty shocking! This is the time to change!

4. It’s time to cut the cable cords! We live in a world that is technology obsessed!! There are so many other options out there to help you live a little cheaper. Who really has time to sit down and watch live TV anyways. We all record and then watch our shows at a random time. With all these options you can still watch some awesome shows while saving a few $$, I mean who doesn’t like to binge watch Netflix at 2 am while eating those Oreos that you hid from the kids all day! We currently don’t have cable, Netflix or Hulu. I ordered the firestick from Amazon for $40 and hooked it up so that we could watch what ever we wanted. We already had amazon prime so we get access to all those shows (amazon is coming out with their own exclusive shows just like Hulu and Netflix) If you still need to watch news or the bachelorette just grab yourself an antenna and you get all your local shows completely FREE! We don’t have an antenna currently, we kind of live in our own blissful world since we don’t know all the negative that the news stations like to broadcast. When we move I do plan to get an antenna but till then we are just fine without it.

3. Meal plan! This goes hand in hand with budgeting, you have a set amount of money for groceries and when that money runs out you have to become creative with the food you have laying around. I am AWFUL at this, I used to be the girl who went to Wal-Mart every other day to buy food for dinner that night, then I’m hungry and buying who knows what, or they get me with all that delicious candy and chips in the check out isle! So to help me, I downloaded this app called EMeals. These people plan my meals for the whole week AND make my grocery list, all I have to do is open the app while shopping and check off something when I grab it! Then when I get home I pick the meal and BAM all my ingredients are there and I don’t have any stress. I pay $50 a year but it saves me that plus some each time I go grocery shopping, so I make that up within the first 2 weeks after that its all savings!

2. Make it! When you need something or run out of something ask yourself “Can I make this?”. So you say you’re not crafty or don’t know how, let me introduce you to your new BFF YouTube! If by some chance you can’t find a tutorial on YouTube, which is not very likely, there is also an app called Pinterest! That’s really my go to. You will find that you can make something so much cheaper and if it’s something for you body you can make it healthier for yourself than buying it. If you have to buy something and it’s not on the budget find a way to make the money to buy it, watch someones kids for a couple of hours, make something that you just learned to make and sell it. There is a lot of ways to make money!

1. Be content. This one steps on my toes every time I think about it. The bible says

“5. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you”  Hebrews 13:5

How many times do we think we “need” a new car because ours is making a funny noise or we “need” new shoes because ours has a hole. Why not get someone of learn how to check your own car before buying a new one. Why not look in your closet at the other 10 pairs of shoes you have. You don’t like the other 10 shoes you have? Sell them and now you can buy yourself another pair of shoes. Of course there will come a time that you car will die and nothing can stop that but hopefully you have been able to set back some money to buy a “new” one. *By new one I defiantly not saying to go out and buy the newest car you can find.Choose one that is in your price range and has a few miles. We want to avoid being in-car debt. You may never have the newest car or most expensive shoes but you will get to be home with your family and to me that worth more than all the Gold and Silver in the world!

**Just because I really LOVE y’all I am going to give you one more tip. DITCH THE DISPOSABLES! You have no idea how much you are paying for plastic cups, paper plates or even paper towels! If you cut out this unneeded expense you will not only save money but you will also help leave the world a nicer and cleaner place for your children. Take pride in what God has left us to take care of, if that means that we have to work just a little harder by washing a couple extra dishes then take that time.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me. I would love to help you make this change too.

Love you,

Share it Saturday

I have no idea where summer went! There is only like 3 Fridays left till we start school. Of course this makes me sad since I won’t be spending everyday with my baby, but I know that my attitude is a reflection of Christ, so I can’t dwell on it.

Philippians 2:14-15 says

“Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,”

This is something that I as always working on. It’s easier said than done. Believe it or not, I was born a sinner and struggle daily with daily.

With summer coming to an end I figured it would be fun to do a quick 5 things about myself.

  1. I LOVE FUZZY SOCKS! In face I love them so much, my amazing husband buys me some EVERY Christmas! It is one of my favorite gifts. And when it comes to fuzzy socks, the taller the better!

2. MY FAVORITE FOOD IS SEAFOOD! Ok so this one can change any day of the week but my go-to meal (on our *price-free date) is crab legs, lobster tail and some warm delicious butter! Chinese come in at a very close second!

*price-free date is a date we have on our birthdays, on this date we can pick any food/restaurant that we want with no price limit, and the spouse pays! Just so you know we are not crazy and we are still respectful but it is a chance to eat somewhere nice that we don’t normally eat.)

3. MY LEFT EAR STICKS OUT MORE THAN MY RIGHT. Weird fact alert! I used to be really self-conscious about this. I’m not sure why it’s like this, but I have a theory. So I part my hair on the right making my bangs go to the left. I also have a bad habit of tucking my hair behind my ears, so this would mean that more hair would be behind my left ear therefore making that ear stick out more. SOOOO I don’t know if this is true, I kind of just made this up, but makes sense right?

4. I WOULD RATHER “DO STUFF” THAN “RECEIVE STUFF”. My husband is GREAT at this one! For our anniversaries the past couple years, he takes me to these amazing places and spoils me dearly! I would rather spend the day hanging out, playing with my family than getting a bunch of stuff that I don’t have room for or won’t use. Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely grateful for anything and everything I get.

5. I HAVE NEVER FLOWN ON A PLANE! There is absolutely no reason for this. I;m not scared of heights, Small spaces don’t scare me (I don’t love them but I can tolerate it) I just haven’t had the opportunity to be on a plane. I  would love to fly somewhere. Honestly anywhere and just say I have been on a plane but that time has not come yet!

I hope that you feel like you know me a little better now! I’m a really simple person who just enjoys life! There is so much in this world that can get you down, if you let it. Keep you head up and smile. Sometimes that smile can change someone else’s day too!

Love Ya,
